Who We Are ?

We are PRYDE. Scholars in the Program for Research on Youth Development and Engagement are college students selected as rising juniors, passionate about understanding and improving youth development. We work closely with social-behavioral scientists and 4-H programs across New York State, gaining mentorship, conducting research, and gaining hands-on experience. By collaborating with a range of diverse partners, we turn research into effective programs and develop questions that support scientific theory. Supported by Dr. Anthony Burrow, founder of Cornell University’s contribution project which has successfully empowered over 250 college students to pursue their passions and make meaningful impacts since 2019, PRYDE scholars aim to extend the opportunity to adolescents through a state-wide 4H contribution project that enables them to make both innovative and augmentative contributions to their community. We, PRYDE, scholars are excited to learn about the types of contributions adolescent 4H’ers are most excited about. We hope you take the chance and apply!

A contribution is an act of giving or donating something valuable, whether it's money, time, effort, skills, resources, or ideas, for the purpose of making a positive impact or difference. Contributions can take various forms, such as volunteering for community service projects, organizing events to raise awareness about important issues, initiating community cleanup efforts, participating in mentorship programs for younger children, advocating for social justice causes, or implementing sustainable initiatives to benefit the environment.

What is Contribution ?

Why Contribution?

In this program, the goal of “contribution” is to empower youth to actively engage with and give back to their communities in meaningful ways, fostering a sense of responsibility, empathy, and pride in their communities. By providing opportunities for youth to make tangible contributions, the program aims to not only benefit the community but also promote personal growth, leadership development, and a deeper understanding of social responsibility among young people.
